Romania is a country with endemic poverty, particularly amongst the Roma gypsy community. The Smiles Foundation concentrates on trying to relieve the condition of underprivileged children in Romania.
Creative Hands
Creative Hands for Mission is a community-based Craft Club formed for the purposes of raising money for the Smiles Foundation, which helps needy children in Romania. Some of the proceeds from our work is also given to local charities. Our members, who do not come exclusively from South Beach Baptist Church, employ a wide range of crafts to make items that we then aim to sell at Craft Fairs etc. We recently received a grant from the Council to expand our activities and now have a laptop and multimedia projector, which are used to take presentations of our work to different places.|
|
Our members cover a wide range of ages and backgrounds. We are always keen to attract more people who enjoy craft activities. Please come and join us even if you do not currently do any crafts. This is a great way to learn. |

We took 10 people to Romania in 2008. Smiles run an Orphanage there for abandoned children, a Community Project feeding hundreds of people every month, Emergency Housing for abused women, a Housing Project, Medical facilities, a Day-Centre for the elderly and even a Community School. Smiles is all about giving hope to the community there, sharing our faith and trying to give them the dignity their current circumstances make difficult. |
We turn our hands to a wide range of crafts, including Sewing, Jewelry-making, FimoClay work, Decoupage, Card-making, Knitting and Artwork. We are always looking for new ideas so if you're into something not listed above please come along and show us. |
